What to prepare before promoting an affiliate link

A practical preflight for the offer, landing page, link, and measurement you will need.

Confirm that the offer fits

Describe the problem the offer solves and the person likely to care. Read the current product description and promotion rules. If you cannot explain the offer in plain language, learn more before advertising it. Do not copy an earnings claim you cannot substantiate.

Make a short record of the offer name, allowed traffic sources, approved destination, and date checked. An affiliate program can change its rules or URLs; review them again when restarting an old campaign.

Check the exact destination

Open your link in a signed-out browser and on a phone. Confirm that the right page appears without a warning, broken layout, or unexpected redirect. If the program provides an official link tester or reporting view, use it to check the referral identifier. Do not make a test purchase just to test a link.

If you use your own landing page, put the promised benefit near the top. A visitor should understand what is offered, what the next action does, and whether payment is required. Keep affiliate disclosures visible and understandable.

Prepare one complete creative

Write a subject, a short ad body, and one call to action. For SA4F Post It ads, the current creator permits a subject up to 100 characters and ad text up to 100 characters. The destination field accepts a full HTTP or HTTPS URL up to 255 characters. Keep the copy comfortably within those limits.

Example subject: “Plan your first advertising test.” Example body: “Choose one message, one destination, and one result to measure. Read the checklist.” These examples demonstrate structure; they do not promise a particular conversion rate.

Set up a record before traffic arrives

Record a campaign label, placement, start date, ad copy, URL, and intended outcome. If your destination supports campaign parameters or your affiliate program supports sub-IDs, follow that system’s instructions. Do not append arbitrary parameters to a signed or otherwise sensitive affiliate URL.

Keep placement counters and destination outcomes in separate columns. Views, clicks, signups, and sales describe different events. A discrepancy is a reason to inspect how each system counts, not proof that either system is dishonest.

Finish with a deliberate check

Read the ad and page together: does the page deliver what the ad suggests? Check spelling, contrast, broken links, and the next-step button. Confirm that you have permission to use any image or product claim.

You are ready to submit when the offer fits the audience, the source is allowed, the destination works, and you can explain how you will evaluate it. Keep this preparation record so a later change has something concrete to compare against.
